Digizoo : Saving goal feature
UX/UI project
Duration : 4 weeks
Team project : 2 UX designers
Goals :
The first goal of this project was to design a product satisfying for the clients, matching with their expectations.
The second goal for us was to be confronted to the real issues of a professional environment and being able to keep our clients up-to-date with our findings and the different steps of the process
Context :
First project working for a client, learning how to communicate with them, realising a project with real-life expectations and feedback
Our clients were Aidan, product specialist and Mike, research and design professional expert in accessibility.
Tools :
Timeline and milestones : Google Sheets
Communication : Teams
Design support : Figma
Presentation : Google Slides
OUR CLIENT : DIGIZOO
Digizoo is a company formed with a team of banking products specialists, designers, developers and engineers, and together they work on digital products for banks. They have different kind of clients such as the big 4 banks, neobank startups and fintechs
PROJECT PRESENTATION
Overview
Digizoo created a digital accelerator 2 years ago allowing big banks to help "little guys" with banking solutions, but the product needs improvements and offered us new opportunities to explore.
So that is why our expertise and skills have been requested for this project, to design a feature aiming to help users to save money for a specific goal : A saving goal feature.
RESEARCH AND SYNTHESISE
INTERVIEWS
We decided to start the research part of this work by interviewing 5 people with some experience in savings. The reason why we chose to conduct this little amount of interviews was to push the qualitative aspect of this research part in getting as much as we could in depth with our questions to obtain the most complete answers.
Goal - driven Gabby
Mid 20s, employed, single, saving for buying a car
Visualised Vincent
Mid 20s, business owner, single, used to save in case of hard times
Disciplined Dave
Mid 40s, employed, single, uses to save without a precise goal
Careful Casper
Early 30s, monthly paid comedian, single, repaying an apartment loan
Auto-pilot Peter
End 30s, investor, married, prefers invest money than save it
JOURNEY MAPPINGS AND "I" STATEMENTS
We synthesised the interviews in representing the task flows with emotions, pain points, goals, issues and so, creating opportunities for us. The "I" statements resuming the ways of improvements we wanted to focus on.
RESEARCH FINDINGS
Users want to reach their goals in the shortest amount of time
Users feel safe and in control over their savings when they have the flexibility to decide when they make their payments
Most users need a visual representation of the progress to help them staying motivated for achieving their goals
Users' savings are directly related to their spendings. If they overspend, it would affect their savings. If they are careful, they might have balance to add to their savings
PROBLEM STATEMENT
USERS NEED A VISUALLY ENGAGING AND ORGANISED SAVING SOLUTION SO THAT THEY CAN EASILY MANAGE THEIR SPENDINGS, STAY MOTIVATED TOWARD THEIR SAVING GOALS, AND HAVE A SEAMLESS EXPERIENCE WITHIN THEIR BANKING SYSTEM
IDEATION
"HOW MIGHT WE" STATEMENT
Starting ideation in proposing potential answers to the questions aiming to solve users' pain points
How might we help users visualise and organise savings?
Progress bars to show percentage of savings/spendings
Line charts to show saving progress over time. Pie chart to show various buckets of savings
Ability to create multiple saving goals
How might we create an integrated experience for savings?
Savings goal calculator to help user to easily define their target
Automatic transfers from savings account into goals
Ways to be able to add savings when they have extra income, and ways to pause it if needed
How might we help users to better manage their spendings?
Ways to set a limit to spend and monitor it
Prompts and reminders to inform about spending progress
To solve these issues, we decided to create 2 features : a Saving Goal feature and a Spending Limit feature
Using Digizoo's UI kit
Constraint : As we had to use an existing design kit as a base for this part of the project, our creativity was less required.
Advantage : Do not have to create a design system from scrap saved us a considerable amount of time
The use of the available design system/UI kit from Digizoo to create a seamless look and match with existing features
To create a "plain vanilla" version that makes customisability for various clients possible
FIRST FEATURE : SAVING GOALS
SKETCHES
To start the phase of visual ideation with sketches, we drew a few ones by our own and did a brainstorming the day after comparing differences and similarities.
Proposition A
FIRST CHALLENGE :
After comparing the initial sketches, a crucial question came to us :
Where would users intuitively navigate to create and check on their saving goals?
Proposition B
PREFERENCE TESTING
To answer the previous question, we decided to create two set of mid-fidelity wireframes and do a moderated testing with 4 users :
Key insights :
Users intuitively navigated to Accounts to look for the option to set up their goal
Users did not relate savings to Stats and had trouble to understand the "savings" placement there (A)
It was easy to set up the goal in Version B, but users didn't think this feature needed a dedicated shortcut
USABILITY TESTING - VERSION 2
After having brought some changing, we conducted another round of usability testing with 11 users on Maze and 1 moderated
Pain points
Creating a tag into the saving accounts part was the most logical and intuitively understandable for users
Users wanted to see the goal date and amount change as they fill out the form
Users would like to see a summary before they click "confirm" to create the goal
"One-time" and "repeated" were confusing terms
The date picker was another pain point in terms of accessibility

SECOND FEATURE - SPENDING LIMIT
USABILITY TESTING - VERSION 1 AND MODIFICATIONS
3 users have been tested remotely
Issue 1
Users intuitively go to Accounts and expect to edit from there, some navigated to Profile
Solution 1
Kept navigation in Profile and create path in Accounts
Issue 2
Users need customisation. Eg : Set a cycle start date, combination of daily and monthly tracking
Issue 2
Users need customisation. Eg : Set a cycle start date, combination of daily and monthly tracking
Solution 2
Enable users to set their cycle date and added daily limit suggestions
Issue 3
Users want to be able to have combined actions to take
Solution 3
CTA to add unused daily limit to boost saving goals
USABILITY TESTING - VERSION 2
11 users have been tested on Maze, 1 user has been tested remotely
Pain points
90% of users tried to navigate to Accounts on first thought. A few of them got into Profile after
The CTA for the booster wasn't clear for users
Majority of users who set up into Account clicked into "spend tracker" to set their limit*
*This insight has been brought to our client during the presentation as a possibility for the future development of this feature
